Fruits of the Climate of Trust - translation of an article from Ryazan's official city web site

Ryazan is unquestionably a city with one of the most active and effective policies against xenophobia in the Central Federal District.

The National Council of Youth and Children’s Organizations of Russia recently held a workshop in a suburb of Ryazan, within the framework of the European Youth Campaign “All are different – All are equal”. One hundred and thirty participants of the workshop representing community-based organizations from 50 Russian regions are training to become Coordinators of Regional Committees of the Campaign.

The Council’s chairman, Aleksandr Sokolov, said the goals and plans of the Campaign in the Russian regions are to more actively involve youth into community affairs and foster respect among youth towards ethnic, cultural and religious diversity of Russian citizens.

Responding to a question about what led the workshop’s organizers to choose Ryazan as a host-city, Mr. Sokolov said that that choice was not random. Ryazan was selected to host the workshop because local community organizations there have valuable experience in combating xenophobia and intolerance, and their experience should be thoroughly studied. Mr. Sokolov added that Ryazan is among top three most successful cities in the region dealing with xenophobia and intolerance.
